The buzz around The Game Awards was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The secret is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction implies that the team could be building a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. For now, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it sparked the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—qualities that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities only possible with a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.
The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be completed in multiple ways, sometimes in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a clever way.

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
